How to play Bhabhi Thulla — official rules

In Bhabhi Thulla, the goal is to get rid of all your cards. Players must follow the lead suit; if you can't, you throw a "Thulla" and the player with the highest card of the lead suit picks up the whole pile. The last player holding cards is the Bhabhi (the loser).

The rules, step by step

  1. Objective (get away): clear your hand of all cards. Players who empty their hands "get away". The single player left holding cards is the Bhabhi.
  2. Follow the lead suit: the player starting the trick plays any card, setting the lead suit. Each player, clockwise, must play a card of that suit if they have one. The highest card of the lead suit wins the trick and leads next.
  3. The Thulla: if you have no card of the lead suit, you may play any card of another suit — a Thulla. The trick ends immediately and the player who played the highest card of the lead suit must pick up the entire pile.
  4. 9-second turn timer (digital version): each player has 9 seconds to move. If time runs out, the game automatically plays your lowest eligible card.
  5. Strategy: track which suits each opponent has run out of. Leading a suit an opponent is out of forces them to throw a Thulla or take the pile.
